Inclusive child care is not just a value, it’s a responsibility. As an Early Childhood Assistant (ECA), you play a key role in supporting children with special needs and creating environments where every child can thrive.
Working alongside Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECEs), families, and specialists, ECAs help ensure that children with diverse abilities receive the care and support they need. This includes:
- Implementing inclusive practices that align with Ontario’s Ministry of Education guidelines
- Supporting Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and adapting daily routines and activities to meet children’s developmental needs
- Fostering belonging and participation through compassionate, child-centred interactions
- Collaborating with families and specialists to ensure consistency and shared goals across settings
At SKD ECE BIT, we provide training modules that focus on special needs education, equipping future ECAs with the tools to work confidently and respectfully in inclusive environments.
