Early Childhood Assistants (ECAs) are essential members of the child care team, working hand-in-hand with Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECEs) to create safe, supportive, and engaging environments for young children.
In a licensed child care setting, ECAs play a hands-on role in:
- Supporting RECEs with program delivery and supervision
- Engaging children in age-appropriate, play-based learning activities
- Maintaining a safe and clean environment by following health and safety protocols
- Fostering social and emotional development by modeling positive interactions and helping children navigate relationships
- Assisting with daily routines such as meals, naps, diapering, and transitions
Through these daily responsibilities, ECAs help ensure each child feels seen, supported, and encouraged in their early learning journey.
