No prior specialized education is required. Our SKD ECE BIT program provides all the essential training you need to become an ECA, including child development, health and safety, inclusive practices, and effective communication, aligned with Ontario’s requirements.
Absolutely. We offer specialized modules on supporting children with special needs, including understanding IEPs and inclusive strategies.
Yes. Our Early Childhood Assistant (ECA) training program is delivered in both French and English. While we do not teach participants how to speak French, the program is designed to support bilingual learners. French-speaking participants are encouraged to apply, as bilingual ECAs are in high demand to support French-speaking children and families across Ontario.
Yes. Our program supports ECAs who wish to open and operate licensed home child care. Training includes essential topics such as licensing requirements, health and safety standards, and foundational business skills to help you successfully run a child care program from home.
The SKD ECE BIT program is 16 weeks long. It includes 8 weeks of hybrid learning (online and in-class) followed by 8 weeks of on-site practical experience. Participants receive paid placement during the 8-week on-site portion, gaining valuable hands-on experience while applying their classroom learning in real-world child care settings.
Yes. To participate in the placement component and qualify for employment, you must provide a clear Vulnerable Sector Police Check and have up-to-date Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification.
Yes. Gaining experience as an ECA is an excellent first step toward becoming a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE). Many ECAs go on to pursue further education in Early Childhood Education programs, using their hands-on experience to support their academic and professional growth.
